MMM Corones - The Messner Mountain Musem at the Plan de Corones

In a breathtaking location with unique design and idyllically embedded in South Tyrol's Mountains lies the Messner Mountain Museum at Plan de Corones. The sixth and thus last Museum of the mountaineering legend Reinhold Messner deals with the exciting world of traditional alpinism.

Reinhold Messner himself describes the Museum as “The Highlight of my mountain museums: A place of tranquility, relaxation and unforgettable views”. The MMM Corones is located high up on the summit plateau of Plan de Corones on one of the most magnificent viewing plateaus in South Tyrol. Here at 2,275 meters above sea level, visitors to the museum enjoy a 360° panoramic view from the Lienz Dolomites to the Ortler and from the Marmolada to the Zillertal Alps. Unique and absolutely worth seeing!

Not only is the location of the Messner Mountain Museum Corones unique, but the architecture has also been carefully chosen. The design of the museum, which is mostly underground, has been adapted to the environment to the extent that it seems to merge with the surrounding mountain landscape. The Iraqi-born architect Zaha Hadid (†31 March 2016) has created a truly unique piece of art here.

The permanent exhibition inside the museum tells about the exciting development of modern mountaineering and about the triumphs and tragedies on the most famous mountains in the world by means of unique relics, pictures and works of art.

Thank you so much! We liked it very!
